At first glance these pieces do resemble the original Drueke Player's Choice #36 set. On closer inspection, they fall short of that quality. The pieces have big, inelegant seams; in my set, I had to use a razor to trim the excess plastic "flash" off the King's cross and several other pieces. One pawn has a big chunk of extra plastic on its side, as if it had been pulled from the mold too soon. I do realize that this is a relatively inexpensive set, and it is okay for rough daily use, just don't think it can replace your authentic Drueke set. I wish that ChessUSA would try again and do a better job--I'd be willing to pay a higher price for a well-made Drueke reproduction. Shipping, on the other hand, was super-fast and excellent.

These are very close to the Drueke Plastic set. I had several Drueke plastic sets when I first started playing tournament chess, and since Drueke went out of business I have not been able to replace them. Now I have and I really enjoy this set.

Great pieces, good weight and feel. The felt on the bottom is paper thin and on most pieces doesn’t extend beyond the bottom of the piece, causing scraping on your board.

I love the color and shape of these pieces. They are great for the most part – one piece has wonky felt on the bottom but it doesn’t really make a difference. The weight feels perfect!

Best option on the market for look-alike Drueke Player's Choice pieces

Great feel and color combo.

These pieces look quite a bit like the Drueke Players Choice pieces from long ago, Especially the bishops. That's the reason I bought them. They are solid and very attractive. The felt on the bottom is very thin and faded looking. Also, a weight and and felt bottom were lose in the bag when I received them. No problem, I simply popped the weight back in a bishop and the felt stuck to the bottom securely. That's the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. They fell good and are weighted. Not triple weighted, but weighted enough to feel good in the hand. I really like the pieces. They arrived sooner then I expected. I'm very happy.

Overall good set at a very good price, except that the "felt" is so thin, it is essentially a piece of thin paper, I have to re-do all the felting myself.

This set is really better than the original Drueke set. The plastic has a nice satin finish that is very nice when handling during play. The pieces are nicely weighted and balanced. And this set has the wide bases that made the Drueke set so nice. This is now set I use when I want to use a plastic set.

The weight, color, & size are very close to Drueke's Players Choice pieces. Every piece is slightly different from the original pieces, but that may be due to some copy right infringement? You can only tell by a direct side by side comparison. If you just put the pieces on the board and play, you can't tell the difference. These pieces seem to be a bit more durable than the original too. The originals are more fragile as these have a feel of a more modern plastic set. Over all it is probably a better made set in the style of Drueke's original Players Choice. If you don't have a spare $200 for an original set, this is the way to go! I am completely happy with my purchase.

It is the closest to a Drueke Players Choice Set you can get!!! Instead of paying $100 - $200 on Ebay, you can have an almost perfect replica of the famous Players Choice Set for an astonishing $19.99 (as of this review) . The weight is spot on and the feel is not as slick as the Drueke set but feels perfect and does not leave you feeling as though it is slipping out of your hand.

Great chess pieces. Actually feel slightly better than the old Drueke Players Choice pieces because of less slick, more rubbery feel. Well weighted and appear to be absolutely indestructible. Knight is not as detailed as old Drueke pieces, the seams are more visible (old pieces did not have any), and felt is not as thick. Additionally, felt is slightly too small and does not cover bottom rim of pieces. Thus, if you have a glossy wood board, pieces may scratch (easy fix/apply new felt). For the money, great pieces and probably the pieces I play most.
