3" Mark of Westminster Imperator Staunton Chess Pieces
Mark of Westminster Chess Pieces are the paradigm of perfection in wood staunton chess piece design. These premier chess pieces are known for their heirloom quality. Each chess piece from the set is hand-carved, has leather bottoms, extra queens, and the signature Mark of Westminster logo beneath each King.
The Imperator design is a classic staunton pattern that has been a favorite for many years. It features sleak, well proportioned pieces and a knight that is elegant and traditional. The knight features a wavy mane and front facing snout and is one of the most classically traditional designs available.

The light side of this set is made from Boxwood, the traditional standard in hand-carved pieces. The dark side is available in several different woods as shown below.
Ebonized and Boxwood Imperator Chess Pieces
Ebonized chess pieces are boxwood that is lacquered black. This gives them a pure black appearance almost identical to ebony for a fraction of the cost. This color can suit virtually any board, but are commonly seen with Walnut, Teak, and Ebonized chessboards.
Honey Rosewood and Boxwood Imperator Chess Pieces
Honey Rosewood chess pieces are a soft, easy to work with light to medium brown wood. There is a fair amount of grain and is an excellent choice for an inexpensive natural look. This wood is usually paired with Walnut or Teak.
Cardinal Rosewood and Boxwood Imperator Chess Pieces
Cardinal Rosewood is the most classic style of Rosewood and can vary from medium to dark brown. This wood is preferred due to its handsome, elegant appearance and strong grain variation. As a midrange wood it is more affordable that some of the exotic hardwoods but still has a suitable rich appearance. This wood is often paired with Mahogany, Macassar, and Walnut.
Ebonywood and Boxwood Imperator Chess Pieces
Ebony chess pieces are the prize choice of many chess aficinados. The purest ebony has little grain and is jet black in color. Other ebony takes a more striped appearance with black and extremely dark brown striations. Ebony is a rare hardwood and is often seen in high-end heirloom quality chess men.
Crimson Rosewood and Boxwood Imperator Chess Pieces
Crimson Rosewood varies from a light red to deep red wine color based on the age of the wood used. It will often grow darker with age when displayed. This is well regarded as one of the most exclusive exotic woods used for chess pieces. It is a naturally hard wood with a very strong grain variation. The wide range of colors makes them the most unique wood. As an expensive hardwood, it is similar to Ebony as a premier choice in chess sets.

Nice attention to detail, lovely geometry. Leather bottoms particularly nice. Fits very well on 1.75" square board.
