Decorative Chess Sets – Traditional and Theme

Decorative Chess Sets

One of the great things about chess is how they fit in to many different categories. Is it a classic board game? Absolutely. But often chess is also a work of art. While some people might want a painting on their wall, others enjoy the beauty of a decorative chess set instead. I’ve noticed a sizable percentage of folks who come in to the store do not play chess at all, and instead just enjoy the museum like experience at looking at all these unique and unusual chessmen in one place. Chess Sets from around the World (Part 1: England, Spain)

I had some great feedback on my post on Chess Sets made in America, and even found a few new manufacturers that offer unique and unusual chess items – so I might very well need to update that post in the future!

In the meantime, since I wrote about chess sets here in the States, I thought it would be worth writing a little bit about where the chess sets we do have come from. Here’s a quick hint: Not all of them come from China!

This week’s question: Where do Chess Sets come from / Are certain chess sets …

Chess Sets Made in America

As we approach the holiday season, I thought it was worthwhile commenting on some of the questions we often receive here at the chess store. I think it can provide some interesting insight in to the chess industry – after all, an informed consumer is a good consumer!

Today’s question: Do you have any chess sets from the United States? / What chess sets are made in America?
